A slew of exciting match-ups are on tap for you in the Southwest Region this afternoon. The ladies are ready to get on the court. It is time to put-up or shut-up and separate the women from the girls.
First up you will see ever-classy (7) Laura Bush take on the - er - vivacious (10) Debbie Wasserman-Schultz in Chicago. These two women could not be more different; one spending her time shielded from the public eye as best as she is able, the other demanding to be in it. While Bush should take her time studying and setting the court with immaculate precision, we can expect Miss Debbie to plow in, leaving her mark just as loudly as those elbows she left on the table. In the end, slow and steady should win the race. Prediction: Class trumps and Lady Laura will advance to the Round of 32.
Next you will see the second overall (1) Sarah Palin take on (16) Jari Haskins. Each hailing from states with a combined population that is less than Metro Chicago, this one could get ugly. Even though one never quite made it to the Governorship, and the other was Governor for - well - basically minutes, Palin's nearly universal name recognition and fan base should give her the decided edge, even given Haskin's home-base advantage in Tulsa. Prediction: Palin cruises to victory; Tina Fey cringes.

Finally some night action for you. (8) Debbie Stabenow will face (9) Kay Hagan in what should be a typically hard-fought 8 v. 9 Senator v. Senator battle. There's been bad blood between these two ever since Senator Hagan "tripped" on the buckled rug in the Senate chambers, sending her Johnnie Walker flying all over Stabenow's new Catherine Walker evening dress and insulted her fashion sensibilities the rest of the evening to half of the foreign delegation's members "just loudly enough to be heard."** Prediction: Stabenow smells fear; gets revenge.
**That's exactly how it happened and you know it!
